Resides- Los Angeles, California
Whether
you’re viewing one of Hyland’s video pieces under his Blond
Chili Productions label or stumbling across his street art, you will most
likely find his work to be solid, colorful, sloppy, at times disgusting,
and most often humorous. Always working with colorful and funny characters
in a variety of mediums, and many times appearing in his films and in
live performances as those characters (Ex. Shop Guy, William Kospty, and
Crazy Craig, Etc.) Hyland’s work is often inspired by poor advertising,
pop culture, public access TV, middle America, and current events.
His
work has been viewed in numerous group shows and film festivals in the
U.S. and Europe, which include The Rules of Space at the London
institue of Contemporary Art, The 2003 Lost Film Festival European
Tour, and last years, Good
World at Cincinnati's
Publico
Gallery, a companion show to the Beautiful
Losers exhibition at Cincinnati's Contemporary
Art Center
Museum, Hyland's work also appeared in the 2003 NYC street art
documentary Public Discourse. In 2004 he was a featured guest on PBS’s
Viewfinder, a program showcasing underground filmmakers.
His
work was also included in the God Bless Graffiti Coalition’s installation
as part of the Interventionists exhibition at the Massachusetts
Museum of Modern Art. This past April Hyland's film Nobodys
was showcased at the Red
Bull Writers Block graffiti exhibition in Birmingham Alabama, where
he also served as a film festival judge for the event.
Hyland’s work has also appeared in Scribble Magazine, Atomica , WoosterCollective.com, and Dialogue Magazine among others.
